Rubber Pryde | Neilpryde

This time of year is when passionate Land Locked Surfers become extra creative. We obsess over ways to capitalize on our passion while the temperatures take a freezing turn. We wanted to take some time out to share a resource and brag on one of our favorite water sports companies who has been keeping land locked surfers warm since they started in the 1970’s. We also what to hook you up with a discount (see bottom of article) for some new rubber. Listen, wet suits are wet suits, they are all the same, right!? We dare you to try and say that after trying on what Neilpryde is dishing out. Buckle up for a break down of the the Mission Full Suit BZ 4/3.

Mission BZ 4/3 Navy/Ice Blue

First Impressions: Right out of the box, two aspects of the Mission BZ 4/3 suit jumped out to us, the classy colors and crazy softness. We opted for the Navy Ice Blue combination which is a welcome contrast to the usual black and neon colors floating around out there. The navy fading to ice blue on the arms to the wrist is a crisp touch and highlights the expansion flex panels on the forearms. We are really excited about the expansion panels! On all our previous suits, we just thought the price of warm arms was tightness and decreased blood flow to the forearms and hands. Neilpryde said forget that noise, and created a solution to increase blood flow to the forearms and extend your cold water surf sessions. This feature combined with the DriFlex neoprene adds to the crazy feeling of softness and flexibility when handling and wearing the suit.

Mission BZ 4/3 Inside

Fit: We love it when products are as advertised! We used the size chart listed on neilpryde.com and when we tried it on at home it fit perfectly. Great movement in the arms and legs with no pinching or misshaped areas.

Material: To get technical, this is not your standard Petroleum based Neoprene. Neilpryde boasts premium Japanese limestone-based neoprene. More specifically, it’s Yamamoto’s neoprene and is more eco-friendly, lighter and has a longer lifespan than traditional neoprene. Its unique high closed-cell structure provides maximum heat retention, extra warmth and added buoyancy. All that is code for, really comfy!

What thickness? We used the Thickness Guide to help confirm that the 4/3 was the right thickness for our needs out here in Arizona. During the winter months, the ground out here does not hold any heat so the lakes fed by the Colorado river get pretty chilly.

How to Score a Discount: Use Code: LANDLOCKEDSURFER at Check out of Neilpryde‘s online store and they will hook you up with a discount off the rubber of your choice!

SURFING MADE POSSIBLE IN AFGHANISTAN

Joy can change the world, and spreading the joy of surfing to Afghanistan is a risk worth taking. Please help us make that happen with Kickstarter!

“In a country that has been crippled by war for the last 40 years every human’s right to the pursuit of happiness is easily forgotten. I can’t explain how much fun surfing can be. I want to bring this joy, that I love so much myself, to my home country.”  Afridun Amu, Wave Riders Association of Afghanistan President and Founder .

Afridun Amu loves surfing but Afghanistan has no ocean. In an effort to share the joy of surfing with his home country, Afri established the Wave Riders Association of Afghanistan (WRAA) in 2012. Since then WRAA has hosted the first Afghan National Surf Competition in Portugal and joined the International Surf Association World Games. Afri has spent much of his life searching the world’s coastlines for surf spots but in June 2018 Afri and a team of river surfers traveled to his home country, landlocked Afghanistan, with just the same goal.

Afri joined the three other surfers in the expedition coming from Germany and Canada.  Since their return the crew of surfers has started a film and currently looking for support on their Kickstarter page to be able to share their story with the world.

“All I wanted to do was travel to a new place and find some waves but surfing those waters opened the eyes of those kids to the possibility of surfing in their home. Seeing surfing in movies and magazines is all I had access to as a kid but from the moment I saw someone on a surfboard I knew I wanted that in my life no matter what it took to make it happen. It felt incredible to now be the one to give that gift.”  Jacob Kelly Quinlan, Canadian River Surfer and Expeditioner.

Are the positive vibes of surfing, even if we are land locked, something we take for granted? Lets help bring the joy of surfing to Afghanistan; where people are in desperate need of peace and relief.

View the the Kickstarter and contribute to the project if you feel so led!

A special thank you to our Community Leader Jacob Kelly Quinlan for helping to make this project a reality.

Build Your Own Endless Wave

Life as a surfer living far from the ocean is a never ending battle. Your daily grind is filled with fleeting thoughts of perfect barreling waves, exotic locations, and most importantly, THE SEARCH. Snap back to reality, and here we are, strapped to our ocean-less cycle dreaming of the next surf trip. Let’s stop waiting for the next trip! There are ways to score surf now! All you need is creativity and a willingness to try something new.

The community of riders Wake Surfing behind inboard boats is growing like crazy, and now it’s so easy to convert your grandpa’s/friend’s/uncle’s or your own ski boat into a monster wave throwing beast! How is this possible? It’s all about the right kind of weight! WakeBallast bags, are one of the simplest ways we’ve found to turn a regular in board boat wake into a great surf wave; capable of filling the void between your surf trips.

Here’s how it works:

Build Your Dream Wave

For best wave results, evenly spread weight bags throughout the boat. Then, fine tune your surf wake preferences, by moving Wake Ballast bags from one side of the boat to another. With this foundation in place, you start stacking bags in the back to increase the size of your surf wave. When your passengers move around for better surf viewing, the small size of the bags make it so easy to shift weight on the fly.

Save Storage Space

We recommend steel filled bags with soft durable coverings that don’t take up your precious storage space and limit the number of friends you can bring along to experience the joy of surfing.

Pad Your Wallet

Wake Ballast Bags allow you to convert older (less expensive) boats into cost effective surf machines, or even bring a newer boat to the next level! Time is money right? Now you won’t waste any time pumping bladders full of water, and emptying them just to shift your surf wake for regular or goofy footers!
